J'adore: MINKPINK

http://www.minkpink.com/
Originating from Down Under (Australia), MINKPINK has quickly become one of my favorite brands.  Comfortable, trendy, and stylish are perfect words to describe MINKPINK.  It can be a little hard to find here in the States, I usually go back and forth between:

I've Been Gone Too Long...

I completely neglected my little blog! I haven't posted since June, and clearly it needs a complete overhaul. I'm back though - for sure. :)

Glee Cast (New Directions) sings, "To Sir, With Love"

On the season finale of Glee, the cast sings "To Sir, With Love" to their teacher, Mr. Schuester (Matthew Morrison).

I have been a fan of Glee since it started back in September, and the show has only gotten better as it's gone on.  The season finale was an emotional one - the team's big L at regionals, the loss of the Glee Club, and finally, the long-awaited birth of Quinn & Puck's baby.

Additionally, there was a great Journey medley performed by New Directions, as well as Bohemian Rhapsody performed by New Directions' rivals, Vocal Adrenaline.

Go to hulu or fox.com and check out the full episode, or better yet, buy the DVD and watch Season 1 from the beginning - and we can all start the countdown to Season 2!

Enjoy.

Shutter Island, Forensic Psychology & Lobotomies, Oh My!

As some of you might know I'm in the process of pursuing my master's degree in Forensic Psychology, what is it, you ask?  (Every person inevitably does).  Forensic Psychology is essentially the study and etiology (cause) of the deviant individual - that sounded so smart. lol.

Recently Kip & I went and saw Shutter Island which was AMAZING.  The bonus?  It was centered around Forensic Psychology and the early introduction of Thorazine (antipsychotic/neuroleptic drug) as a use for mental illness and psychotic diseases, as well as some references to lobotomies.

Greyson Chance sings Paparazzi

You may or may not have heard about the very adorable 12 year old boy, Greyson Chance who has taken the internet by storm singing a cover of Lady Gaga's "Paparrazzi".

The best part of this video is watching all the little girls in the audience.  Check their faces when he begins to sing.  lol.

Enjoy it, Kid!  You've got talent!

Nicki Minaj - Your Love

As I was driving to work this morning, listening to Sirius/XM Radio this happened to come on and catch my attention.  LOVE IT.  She can count on me buying her album if the tracks are as good as this one.

J'Adore: The Twilight Saga

A little story about me jumping on the Twilight Express:

About a year ago, everyone was going crazy over the release of  Twilight on DVD.  Both my sister (who was a huge fan of the books) and my co-worker insisted that I must READ THE BOOKS FIRST!  (For fear of certain death if I didn't), I took their advice and borrowed the first book from my co-worker.  I was hooked.  Skeptic that I was, I was instantaneously drawn in, I read Twilight in no more than 5 hours, and immediately drove to Barnes & Noble and bought the rest of the collection which I voraciously devoured over the next 2 days.  Yes, I read all four in less than 2 days.  Sad to see it end, I then proceeded to watch Twilight (the movie).  While not exactly sticking to the book, Catherine Hardawicke (the director) did a great job with her interpretation of the book.  (If you want to watch it check out HBO/Showtime/Starz on the weekend, they play it ALL the time).

Fashion With A Side Of Life: I wonder . . .

Fashion With A Side Of Life: I wonder . . .

Take a look at my good friend, the Fashion Citizen's blog entry about Martin Luther King & Fashion - confused on how the two meet? Check out this great article about the sacrifices made by a generation before us and the entitlement that this new generation has adopted from the very rights that the pioneers of civil rights fought for.

Preach on!!!

Congratulations, Auntea & Afuw!

Congratulations, Auntea & Afuw!

The first time I met Auntea, I was introduced by my boyfriend who has been friends with her boyfriend (Afuw) since they were in grade school.  We met for a poker night, and I (being the Poker Queen at the time) taught them how to play.  Let me preface the next part by saying, Auntea is a bonafide NOLA girl through and through. Long story short: Infamous line of the night, "Uh - uh, hol' on now Lil' Wodie." - I die every time I think of when she said this.

Ever since then, Afuw & Auntea have been ride or die friends, and have become so close to my heart that I literally am brimming with joy over their announcement.  It's official! They're the soon-to-be Mr. & Mrs. M.

I cannot think of a more perfect couple, and am so thrilled for them!  All my blessings and love go out to them on this wonderful day!  Congratulations, guys!

Happy Birthday, Dr. King!!!

Happy Birthday, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.!!!

Today in 1929, Martin Luther King, Jr. was born in Atlanta, Georgia.  Dr. King epitomizes the tremendous influence one person can have on the world, through hard work, perserverance, and in the face of adversity.  Dr. King fought against injustice and hatred in a world where he was ostracized for the color of his skin.  This post alone could not hold a candle to all of the wonderful accomplishments accredited to Dr. King.  Dr. King held fast to his ideals of: truth, courage, dignity, humility and servitude to his fellow man.  On April 4th, 1968 while standing outside of his Memphis hotel room, he was assassinated by James Earl Ray; and in 1999 it was found that additionally, Loyd Jowers, The City of Memphis, the State of Tennessee, and the Federal Government were party to the conspiracy to assasinate Dr. King (source: The King Center).

Yele Haiti & Relief Efforts

As most of you are aware, on Tuesday, January 12th shortly before 5 p.m. Haiti was hit by a 7.0 magnitude earthquake.  It was estimated today by the Prime Minister of Haiti that hundreds of thousands of individuals were killed in this catastrophic event.  In addition, Haiti was already suffering from poverty, civil unrest, and was still recovering from hurricanes in 2008 which devastated the tiny island.  News reports are still pouring in with images of devastation and destruction.  Countries across the world are scrambling to send search and rescue and humanitarian assistance teams.  I personally donated to Wyclef Jean's long established organization, Yele Haiti, which donates 100% of your donations to the designated fund.  Right now the website is being flooded with well meaning individuals, so please be patient.  The American Red Cross is also assisting and accepting donations to contribute to the Relief Effort in Haiti.  Unfortunately at this time, they are not accepting volunteers, but if you can spare a monetary donation during these difficult times please do, every penny helps, and we have to keep in mind how far American money goes in the Caribbean.

If you'd like to donate to Yele Haiti, you can visit their website here.  If you'd like to donate to the Red Cross, please visit this link and be sure to click "International Response Fund", and notate that you wish to designate it specifically to the Haiti Earthquake Disaster Relief.  You can also call 1-800-REDCROSS or send monetary donations via mail to: American Red Cross, P.O. Box 37243, Washington, DC, 20013 - and be sure to write Haiti Earthquake Disaster Relief in the memo line of your check.

For full coverage of the news from Haiti, visit CNN's Disaster in Haiti Coverage.

Team Conan

NBC is seriously crazy if they think that they can take Conan off the air and have the Tonight Show survive.  They need to just accept that it's time for Leno to pass the torch.  They knew this was coming for a long time and at the last minute decided to try and keep Leno too by giving him an earlier show.  The whole thing is ridiculous and based on greed.  Which is really going to screw them in the end when they lose their audiences to another network.  They need to just know that they have a good thing with Conan, and Leno needs to gracefully bow out.  That's my two cents, and as long as they keep Conan they can get my attention any day.  For Conan's full statement go to:  http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/01/12/conan-obrien-statement-i_n_420521.html.
